Based on requests from New Mexico medical cannabis patients, we are happy to announce the production and sale of cannabutter. Cannabutter is a key ingredient for many cannabis food products and it provides an excellent alternative delivery means to experience the effects of cannabinoids, without smoking. Instead, the cannabinoids are delivery via the cannabutter, which is put into cakes, brownies, and other foods.

Cannabutter is a butter-based solution which has been infused with cannabinoids by heating the raw cannabis along with butter, allowing the cannabinoids to be extracted by the fat. The most popular use of cannabutter might be in the production of brownies. Brownies have been used to ingest cannabis for decade but today, cannabutter is used to make a multitude of food products including muffins, cookies, cakes and many other foods that call for butter as an ingredient.
Some experts claim that oral consumption of cannabis, when properly cooked, is a more efficient way to absorb cannabinoids than smoking. Oral consumption of cannabinoids can result in a similar psychoactive effect as smoking although there are some important differences. In general, it takes longer to feel the effects of cannabis when ingested orally, than when smoked. It fact, it can take up to two hours to to reach full effects after ingesting cannabis whereas when smoked, the effect is almost instantaneous. Another important difference is the ability (or inability), to accurately measure the amount of cannabis ingested, versus smoking.
We recommend that first time users of edibles experiment with the amount they ingest and give themselves plenty of time to feel its effect. It's important for medical cannabis patients to remember that ingested cannabis will eventually enter the bloodstream and its effects will be felt. However, it is not an immediate effect such as that produced through smoking. That said, edibles are an excellent way to medicate without the need to smoke.
Cannabutter is sold in 2 oz containers and is simply used in exchange for the amount of butter called for in a recipe.
