Qualifying Conditions

Medical cannabis is the use of cannabis and its constituent cannabinoids such as THC and CBD, as a physician-recommended form of medicine or herbal therapy. The cannabis plant from which the cannabis drug is derived has a long history of medicinal use, with evidence dating back to 2,737 BC.


Although the plant has been used by civilizations around the world to treat countless conditions, as of December 2012, there are 17 qualifying conditions in New Mexico:


  • Cancer
  • Glaucoma
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Epilepsy
  • Spinal Cord Damage with Intractable Spasticity
  • Painful peripheral neuropathy
  • Intractable nausea/vomiting
  • Severe anorexia/cachexia
  • Hepatitis C infection currently receiving antiviral treatment
  • Crohn's disease
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
  • Severe Chronic Pain
  • Hospice Care
  • Inflammatory autoimmune-mediated arthritis
  • Cervical dystonia
